Aim: To assess the prevalence and pattern of ocular morbidity among school children in Bagalkot city and to recognize avoidable causes of ocular morbidity. Method: A cross-sectional study was undertaken in school children aged 6-16 years in Bagalkot city. Two schools were selected by simple random sampling and a total of 1010 students underwent complete ocular examination. Results: Prevalence of ocular morbidity was found to be 9%. Refractive error (6.73) was found to be the most common cause of ocular morbidity followed by allergic conjunctivitis (0.9%).Other morbid conditions were strabismus, external hordeolum and blepharitis. Conclusion: The prevalence of ocular morbidity in our study was 9%, uncorrected refractive errors (6.73%) being the most common, followed by allergic conjunctivitis (0.9%).
